The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley

Jess has run into some trouble at her waitressing job in London, and needs to crash with older half- brother Ben in Paris for a while. But when she gets there, Ben is nowhere to be seen. Jess is left with a truncated voicemail from him and his empty apartment - which still contains his wallet, phone, and keys. The other tenants in the very upscale apartment building seem less than forthcoming with their knowledge of what might’ve happened to Ben, and Jess very soon becomes suspicious. But plucky Jess is not deterred and her investigations lead to a strange and surprising connection between all of the occupants of the building. Jess learns that a dark business is being covered by a front and is actually supporting the owners of the building. Ben is a journalist and may have uncovered the truth about the apartment owners and now the question of Ben’s whereabouts is left to Jess and a colleague of Ben’s.
