Rachel Joyce is the author of such greats as The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry and Perfect (both of which I HIGHLY recommend) and this novel is worthy to stand alongside those. In 1950’s post World War ll Margery Benson is considered a spinster. She teaches Home Ec classes and her cruel teen students finally push her over the edge. Margery abruptly abandons her job and sets out to pursue a long held dream. She decides to cross the world to search for a rare beetle she learned about as a child from her beloved father. Margery then needs to find an assistant whom turns out to be a person who has to do some escaping of her own. The adventure that follows is full of silliness and harrowing turns. You will find yourself rooting for these strong, complex women and cheering for the wonderment that is female friendship.
