If you happen to be one of the people who think Stephen King produces only horror then I would point to Shawshank Redemption, Stand Be Me, or the more recent Elevation which all fall into more of the Supernatural. This collection of four novellas by Stephen King are more in the latter category while elements of horror do present themselves in the title story. In Mr. Harrigan’s phone, his device continues to ring and play its outgoing message long after it should be dead, thus allowing a young man who worked for the deceased to communicate with him. In The Life of Chuck, we read of the end of the world happening all while a man named Charlie’s life is flashed by in reverse. Holly Gibney (a character from the Outsider and the Mr. Mercedes series) returns in the title story If It Bleeds where she sets out to defeat a monster masquerading as a T.V. Reporter. And in The Rat, a writer who isolates himself from his family in a northern Maine cabin to finish a novel encounters a rodent who offers him a deal in exchange for his book’s completion. My son Alex, the biggest Stephen King fan ever, will be happy to see one of his works here! Pure entertainment!
