Becky's Great Book Reviews If Something Happens to Me by Alex Finley

Becky Moe

Alex Finlay brings intrigue and drama with If Something Happens to Me. Two families' scary and tragic entanglement is the main thread of this action-packed tale.

When Ryan's girlfriend Alison is snatched along with her father's car on the night before the two head off to college, all eyes turn to Ryan. Living under a constant cloud of suspicion, Ryan makes the decision to change his name when he leaves the small Kansas town.

Flip-flopping chapters introduce us to Shane O'Leary and his family in Philadelphia and this is where we learn of the association between Alison and the O'Leary family. When Ryan is on a law school sponsored trip to Italy and is encountered with the man whom he vaguely remembers kidnapping Alison, he makes the decision to figure out what happened to his high school sweetheart. Going by a hand-written note found in Alison's recently recovered car titled, "If something Happens to Me", Ryan is lead on a wild ride to England, France and then finally back to Kansas. Along the way are multiple twists, turns and murders.

Plot-forward and lively, this story of revenge and intrigue kept me hooked until the satisfying end. This novel gets four stars out of five.
